So - I watched most of the 1st and 2nd debates, and excerpts of the 3rd. And here's what I've learned.
From the presidential debates: there is more acrimony between the two candidates than respect. From neither does this evoke a sense of statesmanship or leadership - that's disappointing, but in the recent American political scene, not unexpected, sadly. There is also more energy devoted to fighting against the other candidate than fighting for the citizenry. What a shame that success in campaigning for the presidency is not about who I am, how I lead, and what I will be able to achieve for the country, but how bad he is, how much he doesn't know, and how bad he will be for the country.
From the VP debates: first, the format seemed to allow for a deeper discussion and more real cross-talk. BUT because there was such a profound disparity between the two candidates' grasp of domestic and foreign policy, we didn't learn enough. Second, I found that Gov Palin has a stunningly vast learning curve ahead of her to even be able to participate meaningfully in conversations; worse though is her impetuousness, and desire for more power than evil-incarnate Cheney. This is scary.
As bizarre as this is, based on the three debates so far, the candidate that has struck me as most ...presidential is Senator Biden - the least visible of the four players.
